Bologna airport: everything you need to know

Bologna Borgo-Panigale Airport is also known as Guglielmo Marconi Airport, in honor of the physicist it is named after. It is located about 10 km from the Emilia-Romagna capital and, thanks to its strategic geographical position, has earned a top spot among the busiest airports in Italy. Given the high number of passengers (over 9 million) that transit through the airport each year, finding a parking spot can be quite a challenge. You can spend a lot of time looking for a parking space that meets your needs or is simply free. Therefore, we recommend booking one in advance.

All About Bologna Airport

The Bologna Airport, located a few kilometers from the city center, has been growing in importance on the national scene for years, thanks to the constant opening of new air routes. It has a single terminal that spans over two floors. It includes many services such as numerous parking areas, direct access to the station, and even an exhibition space dedicated to Lamborghini cars.

How Early to Arrive at the Airport?

Traffic, delays, looking for parking... arriving at the airport on time to catch your flight is not something to take for granted. However, it's important to ask how early you should get to the airport.

For intercontinental flights, we recommend arriving at least 3.5 hours early to allow for all the necessary checks.

For domestic or Schengen area flights, it's preferable to arrive about 2.5 hours early.

To avoid delays, once you arrive at the airport, we recommend booking your parking spot in advance so you can park in just a few seconds in the chosen lot.

What Documents to Bring?

Before going on a trip, it's always good to make a list of the documents to bring with you to avoid being literally grounded.

Depending on your destination, we recommend:

Boarding pass;

Identity card or valid travel document (if traveling within the Schengen Area);

Passport, visa, and/or travel authorization if traveling beyond European borders;

Bus, train, parking, or other tickets if you have opted for one of these options.

A separate note should be made for minors' documents. If traveling with your children, remember to bring valid travel certificates.

If a minor is traveling alone,

with an adult who is not the legal guardian,

or with only one parent,

remember that it is necessary to have an official document signed by the parents, the second parent, or the legal guardian authorizing them to travel abroad.
