Location of the Museum of Fine Arts
The Angers Museum of Fine Arts is located in Barrault, a private mansion in Place Saint-Eloi. This museum is close to the historic center of Angers.
History of the Museum of Fine Arts
In 1801, the Logis Barrault welcomed the museum of the Central School of Maine-et-Loire, arranged according to the model of the Louvre. When the school was abolished in 1803, the municipality decided to save the museum and its collection of paintings. It became a municipal museum in 1805. The expansion, renovation and transformation work undertaken between 1999 and 2005 helped to harmonize the buildings and enhance each period.
